Behind every beautifully unique piece of custom-made furniture here at Due South is the builder; and like our furniture, behind the builder is a story.

    Brett began building furniture back in 2014 as Assistant Stage Manager where he had the opportunity to help design and construct sets for Furniture Row. It’s here that he started to learn the process of mixing structural support and design to create an aesthetically pleasing and quality product to best serve the customer.

    His creativity came about long before his time at Furniture Row.  From the time Brett was a young boy, he remembers admiring his dad, a homebuilder, and wanting to be like him. The proof is found in a photograph of 3-year-old Brett, sporting a mullet, hammering away on a slab of wood. He recalls making his first piece of furniture with his childhood buddy. Together they crafted a tiny bookshelf – barely big enough to fit 8 books. What started as a 5-year-old tinkering with a hammer and nails later evolved into summers working with his dad building custom homes from the bottom up. Little did he know, a work ethic and a love for creating was being instilled within him with each new building endeavor.

    With years of experience under his tool belt, venturing into a variety of building projects, he’s found that tables are his favorite pieces to make. 

“I like the concept that this is where the family gathers, slows down together, laughs and eats as one unit! I believe God has designed us to grow with one another in our families and other relationships, and I like thinking that my tables will encourage the family aspect.”

    Much of Brett’s passion behind his furniture crafting is rooted in the opportunity to collaborate with the customer. The integration of their plan with his creative process is an incredible opportunity to bring the customer’s vision to life, which makes all the brainstorming, designing, and labor worth every second. The unique synthesis between Brett’s creative spirit and love to serve others manifests itself within each beautiful piece of furniture he produces. His artistic eye and desire to meet the customer’s needs really does make for an incredibly high quality product that we are proud to sell here at Due South.
